Rochester Public Schools is committed to providing opportunities for all students to realize their potential. We are committed to building relationships and developing a sense of ownership within the entire community to improve student learning experiences.

As such, we want to hear your thoughts on our school calendar. Specifically, we are considering adopting an earlier start to the school year - before Labor Day. We have considered the earlier start because this provides additional time for the District to complete bigger construction projects that will begin in the Spring of 2019. We want to hear from you regarding your thoughts and questions around making this change.

For the purposes of the Thoughtexchange questions Calendar 1 refers to a modified school calendar with a pre-Labor Day start and Calendar 2 refers to our current school calendar, starting after Labor Day.

We would also like to recognize the Meet and Confer Committee which is a committee composed of the Rochester Education Association (REA) President, teachers, several principals, several cabinet members, a member of the Rochester Public Schools Board of Education, and the Superintendent. This committee brings forward suggestions from the teachers at each building. Along with discussing many different factors to build the best schedule possible for families and students. The committee is committed to reviewing our community's feedback so we can continue to improve upon our calendar.
