Elementary School

Playground Rules

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
My name is Clint Thome and I am the Physical Education teacher at Gage Elementary. I am excited to be part of the Gage community, and I am happy to be here. Your child has Physical Education class with me two days of the cycle. The Rochester Elementary Physical Education program provides emphasis on health, physical fitness, and development of the skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of health-related and recreational activities. This program also provides enjoyment, challenge, and social interaction through a variety of activities. The students will receive a progress report card first semester and at the end of the year.
If you have any health or social concerns, please send a note addressed to me. The health and safety of your child is important to me. The students are expected to be in safe athletic shoes and clothes appropriate for active participation. Sandals, flip-flops, boots, clogs and any shoe with a high heel or platform are dangerous and should not be worn during class.  Please do not feel you must buy an expensive pair of tennis shoes for class. All I ask is the shoes you provide for your child are safe and designed for athletic activities. If possible, it is a good idea to provide a pair of shoes that can be kept in your child’s locker so the shoes are available for active play anytime, recess or physical education class. The special area letter days are printed on the monthly lunch calendar, which can help them to remember when to bring athletic tennis shoes to school. A year-long special area letter day calendar was also placed in the take home folder given out on Meet the Teacher Day.
I expect all students to be respectful listeners, use safe body control, be positive toward others, and try their best. The goal is to be physically active and improve motor skills for each student, not turn him or her into professional athletes. If they try their best, fitness levels and skills will improve over time. Fitness can be fun and leads to better learning in the classroom.
We will focuses on teaching the students group dynamics, conflict resolution, communication, cooperation, empathy, self-control, self-awareness, motivation, decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, stress management, and self-responsibility.
Have a great school year, and please continue to be an active participant in your child’s education.
Mr. Thome
